Hello!!! I’m back with more luxury living updates. We’ve actually done a number of projects in the house since my last update so I’ll walk you through those over the next few weeks, but with Thanksgiving coming up, I thought it pressing to focus on kitchen floor mats.

In order to properly cook excessive amounts of not-very-good food for your friends and family, you should plan to be on your feet for hours. That’s why you’ll need a good kitchen floor mat. I obviously have people that do my cooking for me, but I want their feet to feel cared for so I did a lot of research to find the best kitchen floor mats and I thought I’d kindly share that with you.

Things to consider when choosing a kitchen floor mat

Placement, size, and number:

• In order to take advantage of the ergonomic benefits, you want your kitchen floor mats placed close enough to the counter, stove, and sink surfaces where you will be standing most.
• This may be accomplished with any combination of wide or narrow, short or long mats, depending on your specific kitchen layout.
• Mats may be placed along the center of a walkway between two work surfaces, or closer to the side where you’ll need it most.

Construction:

• It should feel like gummy bears under your feet.
• You’ll want sloped edges to prevent tripping. Placement helps with this to so you may want to pace repeatedly around your kitchen with a tester rug to see where your feet hit. Otherwise you risk losing your entire lasagna.
• You’ll also want to make sure it’s easy to clean, in case your lasagna lands on the mat itself.
• Finally, if you expect uncivilized people in your kitchen, you need to make sure it can resist punctures by high heels.

It’s actually meant to be a play mat, you know the kind made up of giant foam puzzle pieces. It’s the Roam Free Play Mat in Mist from the House of Noa, which is the same company that makes 4 and 8 above. I really loved the look of 8 but it didn’t come in a size that was big enough to run along the length of the island.

I really like that the play mats are very customizable because you assemble them yourself to whatever size and shape you want, with the minor constraint that each piece is 2 feet by 2 feet. And there are a bunch of super cute patterns!
