It’s time to start looking for another project to take up all of my time.

We’ve found a few interesting options:

Tanglewood

Tanglewood is 3,500 square foot farmhouse built in 1835 and located 30 minutes from Raleigh.

This farmhouse sits on 3.5 acres with a collection of outbuildings

including a gable storage building,

an 1830s smokehouse AND 1870s smokehouse,

a bell tower, a caretaker’s cottage, a 13-stall mule barn,

and a few sheds and garages.

The landscape features pecan, walnut, elm, and boxwoods.

The original two-story front and rear sections each have large double-shouldered chimneys,

tall 9-over-6 windows, a wide central entry hall with fine woodgrained wainscoting,

a winder stair, and a rear service stair.

The northwest parlor features tall plaster cornices and ceiling medallion,

and excellent faux woodgrain on the doors and wainscot.

The house was enlarged in the 1870s and again in the early 20th-century, resulting in a wide wrap-around porch, several wings and more “modern” outbuildings like car garages.

With the amount of land, number and variety of outbuildings, and proximity to Raleigh, this property would make an attractive wedding and event venue.

The Church

The Church is is 5000 square foot church built in 1930 and located in Hickory, North Carolina.

The church features a large beautiful sanctuary on the first floor, with many beautiful stained glass windows.

The masonry work is excellent and there is parking in the rear. In addition to the church there is a two story parsonage next door, (2,030 sq ft), built in 1930.

Behind the church there is a large fellowship hall (3,116 sq ft)

with a large kitchen, storage, an office, and restrooms.

Its central location in up-and-coming Hickory, makes The Church a perfect candidate for a beautiful bar.  The fellowship hall’s kitchen would be expanded with additional space used for private events. The parsonage could re-purposed as a boutique hotel.

If we were to tackle one of these projects, which one would you choose? Tanglewood or The Church?

  1. Tanglewood! I could see you enjoying that one and the resale potential would be higher than the church.

  2. Tanglewood. Converting a church into a bar just doesn’t sell right to me.
